Public speaking coach to present workshop at Lesley University’s Creative Leadership Conference Carla Kimball, public speaking coach and founder of the Cambridge-based RiverWays Enterprises, will present a workshop combining movement, meditation and speaking at Lesley University’s June 1 conference, “Liberating Creativity: The Courage to Lead.” The conference, which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Alumni Hall on Lesley’s main campus, provides a forum for individuals to share ideas, take risks and learn new ways to exercise creative leadership in their personal and professional lives. It will begin with a morning workshop, “Liberating Expression,” exploring how the creative process carries us to new realms of expression and understanding. Facilitated by Shaun McNiff, University Professor and Dean of Lesley College, the group will establish a community of creative expression through the use of varied artistic media. The early afternoon session features Hugh O’Doherty of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, addressing the topic of “Creativity and Adaptive Leadership.” The conference will conclude with three workshops using art, drama and movement to give participants the opportunity to process and integrate the information and ideas absorbed during the day. Kimball’s integrative workshop, titled “Creative Clarity through Embodied Presence,” will focus on the use of movement, stillness, speaking and silence to help bring to the surface personal insights on the connection between leadership and creativity. “Sometimes the best way to integrate a highly stimulating experience is through the grounding effect of movement and the quiet stillness of meditation,” Kimball says. “Once people have had a meaningful exploration of their creative process and what it means to be a creative leader, they’ll have the opportunity to let that sink in at a deeper, more cellular level as they bring awareness into their bodies and then speak from that embodied experience.” Kimball, who holds an MBA from the Crummer School of Business and a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Lesley University, incorporates stress management and embodied presence techniques in her unique public speaking leadership programs. Her “ABCs of Presence in Public Speaking Toolkit” helps clients overcome fears, project more confidence and cultivate leadership presence. She is currently a student in Lesley’s advanced certificate program in Creativity, Imagination and Leadership. The conference is a collaborative effort between Lesley University’s Advanced Studies in Creativity, Imagination, and Leadership Certificate Program, the Institute for Mind, Body and Spirituality, and the Division of Continuing Education.
