Guide to our programs, products
and services:
Which option is best for you?
Below is a brief summary of our spectrum of offerings plus
links to examples of how people have benefited from these programs. If
after reading this you still don't know what would work best for you,
feel free to contact me, Carla Kimball, (carla@riverways.com)
and I'll be happy to help you decide which approach is best for you. Continue
reading and you will learn about:
Private individual coaching (either
in person or by phone): One of my favorite activities is to help you design,
develop, and deliver content for specific presentations.
We start by talking about who is the audience and what do you want them
to leave with. We explore what fires you up about the material, what gets
you excited about what you will be talking about. We think about how best
to organize the material so that you can get your message across. We find
ways to remember your points so that you can speak to your topic conversationally.
And, last but not least, then we look for ways to make the experience
fun for you and for your audience.
Once your content is developed, you could then schedule a session to
practice and be coached delivering the presentation with presence. If
you come to my office rather than by phone, it's possible to videotape
your delivery, and then, while watching the recording together, have conversations
about what worked and what you can do to make the presentation even better.
Private sessions typically run for an hour and a half. Phone sessions
average an hour in length. Sometimes, especially for people who want to
work in person but live a distance away, we schedule half-day or full-day
sessions to complete the preparation of a presentation in one sitting.
For three great examples of how clients have benefited from private coaching,
you might enjoy reading about three of our featured speakers: George
Dom, Anne
Litwin, and Sara
Lazar. All three clients combined private coaching with one
or more group sessions.

Group programs: If you are not
working on a specific presentation, but are more concerned with generally
improving your ability to speak confidently in any situation, then either
a small group coaching program or one of our courses will be most helpful.
In order to really gain confidence speaking to a group, you have to practice
in front of a real audience.
Sometimes people find the thought of starting in a group a little intimidating,
and if that's the case for you, I'd be happy to meet with you privately
for an evaluation session. I will most likely encourage you to join a
group in addition to working together privately because there's such value
in working with an actual audience. Most people are pleased to know that
you'll get plenty of attention even in our group programs because our
class size is never more than 8 people (depending on the program) and
sometimes can be a small as two people. The average size of all our group
programs ranges from 4 to 6 people.
We offer several group programs to address your specific needs.
- Our one-day introductory small group coaching program, SpeakingPresence
Fundamentals, will most likely transform your idea of what
it means to be a confident speaker. You'll have multiple opportunities
to practice the simple fundamentals of speaking with presence and you'll
leave with a sense that, in fact, you could be the speaker you'd like
to become. This single experience is often enough to give you the confidence
you need to speak up at the next meeting or to give your next presentation
without the crippling anxiety that can often derail your ability to
speak well.
While she attended the SpeakingPresence program
in a slightly different format, you might enjoy reading about Tracey
Vincent, PhD, who attended several SpeakingPresence sessions
plus several other of our programs and services as she prepared to
defend her engineering doctoral dissertation.
- In our two-day Successfully
Speaking Small Group Coaching program we work with these
basic building blocks as we introduce our Elemental
Speakingsm model for developing a high degree
of speaking confidence and then practice these tools with a prepared
talk. Because of its two-day structure, this program is ideally suited
for people who can travel from out of town (there are a number of B&B's
and inns close by) or who wish to offer an intensive training to a group
of people within an organization. If you have a group of three to six
people interested in becoming better speakers, I am also available to
bring this program to you.
To learn more about what one person gained from participating in one
of these intensive you might be interested in reading about one of our
featured speakers, John
Sullivan.
- Our 12 week Speaking with Confidence
for Results course is our most comprehensive, with the
first six weeks focused on presence and confidence and the second half
working on all aspects of content design, development and delivery.
Participants have multiple opportunities to integrate new speaking presence
skills into their day-to-day professional lives.
While we offer this program on a regular basis to individuals at our
office, it is an ideal addition to a comprehensive leadership development
program and can be brought into your organization either as a series
of six day-long sessions over a period of six months or 12 half-day
sessions over a year.
We have featured three speakers who have participated in this program,
Marie Bankuti,
Kelly
Bollman and Dana
Zemack. Their stories will help give you a sense of what
can be achieved through this comprehensive program.
