Topics

Cultivating Presence in Speaking, Leading, and Life!

Presence isn't something that we pull out of the closet and don for a special occasion. It's a way of being and a practice that we cultivate in every aspect of our lives. When we live a life committed to presence in our everyday activities, we are then much more able to have presence at those times when we are feeling especially nervous or fearful.

When we are in presence, we are much more relaxed and available to ourselves, have more access to our content, and are more connected with our audience. This state of being is an absolutely key, but often overlooked, quality for effective leadership.

In Carla Kimball's interactive leadership development presentation, Cultivating Presence, we begin with a conversation identifying the key elements of presence and why it's such an important characteristic of a good leader and speaker. We then explore The Seven Crown Jewels of Presence: seven simple strategies for living a life of presence in our everyday activities and, by doing so, we learn to speak (and lead) with presence, whether we are talking to one person, speaking up in a meeting or presenting to an audience of 500.

To get a taste of how Carla presence and her approach to speaking, watch a 5 minute video of Carla talking about one of the Crown Jewels.

If you are looking for more than a motivational speaker — not just motivation but inspiration and education— for the people in your organization or association, you might consider bringing Carla in to share this life changing perspective with your group.

Sustainable Joy: The art of slowing down and cultivating presence

Carla has dedicated much of her adult life exploring presence. As a dancer, a yoga and meditation teacher, a stress management consultant and, most recently, as a speaking presence coach, the experience of presence has been at the core of her ongoing personal inquiry.

In 2008, Carla had the opportunity to live for two months in a yurt in an ancient olive grove in a remote part of Greece. During those two months, Carla began to identify the essential qualities of presence that have woven through all that she's done. Carla now lives on a farm in a co-housing community dedicated to living sustainably and is once again experiencing how important those essential principles are to living an intentional life.

Using photos and stories from her experiences in Greece and on the farm as well as her deeply honed contemplative practices that have informed her personal life and her skill as a public speaking presence coach, Carla shares these emerging themes with her audiences and offers people a framework in which to create a life of joyful presence for themselves.

Carla can present this topic as a two hour talk or a half- or full-day workshop.

Speaking with Both Feet on the Ground

So often people who have a high degree of fear of public speaking describe it as an "out of body" experience. They don't feel present with themselves, their audience, or their content.

In this workshop, designed as an extended experience of at least a day and a half, Carla integrates her unique approach to public speaking with what she calls embodied presence, the ability to stay grounded in your physical experience of yourself while you speak.

Through yoga-like exercises along with multiple opportunities to practice speaking with presence, you'll learn to become "comfortable in your own skin" as you speak authentically and in connection with your audience.
