Carla's Roots/Philosophy/Approach
 |
I’ve been where you are now
For much of my early adult life, I was terrified of speaking. I’ve
felt the debilitating anxiety a speaking situation can create.
So I took what I’d learned over many years as a stress management
consultant, yoga and dance teacher, meditation teacher, and Tai
Chi practitioner, Speaking Circle®
facilitator along with my educational background in psychology (and
my masters in business), and created a program that really addresses
your underlying fear.

My Personal Approach to Life and Work
I am my own experiment and life is my laboratory.
When I find some particular blend that feels especially useful to me,
I then seek ways to share this with others.
I create safe containers which offer experiences where you can:
- Discover, express, and embody your joyful,
authentic, and creative presence.
- Gently encounter and move beyond the edges created
by your limiting beliefs.
- Actualize your full potential
- Speak and listen to others from a place of full presence
I am a synergist. I borrow shamelessly from all the traditions,
practices, and approaches I have studied. Into every program I facilitate
I mix:
 |
- A lot of Speaking Circles®
- Some Focusing
- A little bit of mindfulness
- A little bit of graphics
- Some yoga, dance, and tai chi
- A lot of myself
|
I
am always seeking to express what I have learned in ways that touch people's
minds, imagination and hearts.
I find that I often get bored with a straight didactic explanation of
theories and concepts. I feel that metaphor, images, and movement
can greatly enhance our understanding of what is normally only conveyed
through a straight verbal description of the theory. New dimensions
and subtle aspects of the topic become evident in this multi-modal exploration.
And, as I work to express the ideas in a new modality, I gain a much
richer and more comprehensive understanding of the topic at hand.
Examples of my multi-modal thinking include:
Why “RiverWays”?
|
The river is my metaphor.
|

It is also a place of adventure, where I can
ride the rapids, take myself to the edge, and feel a sense of exhilaration,
energy, and aliveness.
|
| It is my guide.
|
It is a place of profound
joy, ineffable sadness, dazzling clarity, and breathless wonder. |
| It is the place where
I encounter myself, speak to the Divine, and find solace, peace and
rest. |
The river without has
guided me to the river within. And as I ride the currents and rapids
and rest in the still pools, I find myself moving closer and closer
to the vast ocean of essence.
